Lily fancied a change and was going to have some navy blue in her hair.So I was a little surprised to open the door to a redhead when she returned from the hair dressers!
Of course I love it. She's like my very own little Florence
Maisie had her dyed bright pink last week and I was hoping to upload a photo to show you but can't find one I like! You can get the gist here though.
Shame they'll probably both have to dye it back again in 6 weeks for school but fun while it lasts.
Whilst in Holland I renewed my love for Hollyhocks.
On almost every street the houses were lined with them.
Seriously beautiful. It's not just me who likes them.
For some reason at the minute I am drawn towards images of flowers and table settings. I think it is connected to the huge feeling I have in my heart at the minute to welcome people into my home.
These images really speak to me and I would love to capture what they say.
I am looking forward to the long lazy days of summer where I can sit and listen. I wonder what I will hear?
I've mentioned before that one morning a week I open my house to any friend who wishes to come and share tea and cakes. It started about 12 years ago with a group of my friends who all had small children.Those children grew and went to school but were soon replaced with new youngsters. I could never have imagined that it would continue long after my own children were at school all day.
Some things however happen for a reason and continue because they are needed. When I started opening my house I needed the company.I needed for people to come to me.I couldn't get out of the house easily with all the small people I had in my care.Now I am no longer tied to the house by lunchtimes and naptimes and the logistics of transporting little people.But I still need those mornings.Thankfully there seems to be a never ending stream of friends and little ones to share my tea and cakes with. Some people have come and gone,some have just begun and others have been here all along.
So you'll hear no complaints from me when I'm hand washing the umpteen vintage cups, saucers and cake plates, on a Thursday afternoon, as each one holds a story. Some stories I have read many times before and others I am just beginning to hear. Being a part of all those stories each week tells me how blessed I am.
Not much else to say today apart from how much we all enjoy a nice cup of tea in this house.
We like a good 'builders brew' strong with just a little milk. We usually go for Yorkshire Tea but just lately we've been giving Lancashire Tea a whirl.
Nice and a local company which is always a bonus.
Today though I'm having Earl Grey how about you?
We haven't planted many things to eat this year. Just a few tomato plants and the regular herbs. So for garden crops we are relying on the raspberry bush planted last year and maybe a few strawberries if we can beat the birds to them!
Thank goodness for the rhubarb then. Next year we will be more organised I promise.
Thanks to my lovely mum having the girls Paddy and I managed to grab a weekend away with friends. We popped over to Delft in Holland along with 8 other friends.
Primarily we were there for the start of the Tour de France 2010 in nearby Rotterdam but of course we made the most of what is a truly beautiful little town.
We sat in cafe's on the square.
We were even lucky enough to soak in the atmosphere of the Dutch winning against Brazil in the world cup.As you can imagine it was very upbeat!
We enjoyed meals in floating barge cafes. Where the food was locally sourced and just delicious.
We strolled through the square at night and were in awe of the sky and architecture.
We visited Rotterdam and took in the sights of a busy commercial port taken over by thousands of cyclists.
We watched the first day of cycling and had a fantastic day despite the rain. I will never forget wearing bin bags and drinking wine from Lidl. Good times.
We got to cheer for British cyclists and take some slightly blurred photos!
Fortunately we were stood next to a great photographer who is hopefully emailing us some better shots.
On the Sunday the 'boys' went back into Rotterdam to see the start of the first stage whilst the 'girls' walked into Delft and got to enjoy the scenery and eat and shop.
It really is such a beautiful area and I would love to go back. Delft will definitely always hold a special place in my heart.
